The women’s team reached the semi-finals of the Derbyshire Cup with a 2-0 win against Draycott Victoria at Shirebrook Academy this afternoon.
With only 12 players available due to injuries, manager Andrea Parkinson made five changes to the starting line-up.
The Spireites dominated possession but struggled to break down Draycott’s defence before Delaney opened the scoring with a great goal, going around the keeper and finding an empty net.
Further chances were created by the Spireites, however Draycott’s experienced defence remained disciplined and they struggled to break them down.
The Spireites re-grouped after the break and forced the opposition keeper into some great saves, with Delaney and Foster both hitting the woodwork.
The second goal came after Delaney capitalised on a scrappy clearance. There could have been a penalty for hand-ball but the referee played on and Delaney latched onto the ball and stayed composed to score her second of the day.
It was a good, professional performance against an experienced Draycott side which saw the Spireites advance to the last four of the competition.
The result saw the Spireites extend their unbeaten run to seven games.
