Paul Cook spoke with the media on Friday morning ahead of Saturday’s clash with Port Vale and he began by sharing his thoughts on new signing, John Fleck.
He said: “There’s no doubt about it, it’s a fantastic signing for us.
“John brings a wealth of experience to the group and gives us something a little different.
“If we’re honest, we only brought him in as a favour to help him train and get fit, but it just happened.
“It ended up suiting both parties perfectly. He’s close to home with his family, and we get a fantastic player.
“He had other offers, but it was the right fit for him; we’re absolutely delighted to have him here permanently.
“We’re really looking forward to seeing him out on the pitch.”
The Spireites make the 42-mile trip on Saturday, looking to continue their winning run.
“It’ll be a tough game against a great side,” Cook said. “Port Vale are certainly one of the better sides in this division, and with a top manager. Despite not the best start, it will come together for them.
“I think they made some great signings over the summer and have fantastic talent in their team, so we’ll need to be at our best.
“We know we can hurt them though, just like we can hurt anyone on our day. We’re going there looking for all three points.”
Finally, the manager touched on the fitness of the squad, saying: “Ash Palmer and Ryheem Sheckleford are still long-term absentees.
“Ryan Colclough is nearing full fitness now, and so is Paddy Madden.
“We’re starting to get the whole squad back together; we’re in a better place now.
“We might see some movement out on loan in the coming days, but we’ll see what happens.
“We want our young lads to be out playing football.”
