“We’re looking to get back to winning ways”

Paul Cook spoke to the media ahead of Saturday’s clash with Cheltenham Town.

He previewed the fixture, which will be broadcast live on Sky Sports, but began by reflecting on the previous loss at Port Vale, saying: “I don’t want to dwell on that too much. The reality is, we weren’t good enough on the day.

“We didn’t manage a shot on target and simply didn’t create enough. If you lose a game, which will happen, you want to lose like we did at Gillingham – not like that.

“I wasn’t happy with it; we’ve talked about it, and now we move forward. The focus is fully on getting back to winning ways on Saturday against Cheltenham.”

The manager then discussed Saturday’s opponents. “Cheltenham are a fantastic side,” he said.

“They have a great manager and can definitely cause any team in this division problems.

“We’ll have to be ready for them, but as always, we’re focusing on ourselves.

“With another big crowd behind us, we’re looking forward to trying to get back to winning ways.

“We need to respond and give the fans something to cheer about.”

Finally, he provided an update on the squad’s fitness.

“We have some positive news today,” Cook said. “Ryan Colclough and Paddy Madden are available for selection tomorrow.

“We’re delighted to have them back in the squad. Will Grigg’s injury isn’t as bad as we first feared.

“He’ll be back in a couple of weeks, hopefully for the Doncaster game, or not long after that.

“It’s a short-term injury rather than the long one we initially feared.

“We’re obviously delighted with that news, but in the meantime, it gives someone else an opportunity.”
