Match preview: Bromley (a)

After an emphatic 3-0 win for the Spireites at Doncaster on Saturday, there is a quick turnaround as they head to Bromley looking for consecutive wins on the road.

With Paddy Madden getting off the mark in a Blues shirt and James Berry finding the back of the net for the fifth time this season, Paul Cook will be hoping his side can secure another good result before the visit of Walsall on Saturday.

Head-to-head

The Spireites have had their fair share of meetings with the Ravens in the National League over the last few years, notably overcoming them in the 2022/23 play-off campaign when Liam Mandeville’s extra-time winner sent the Spireites to Wembley.

Following relegation to the National League in 2018, the Spireites have faced Bromley 13 times, taking just four wins.

Paul Cook was Chesterfield manager for six of those matches and earned three of the victories – the latest coming almost a year ago as his side defeated Bromley 2-0 at the SMH Group Stadium thanks to goals from Tom Naylor and Joe Quigley.

Andy Woodman

A goalkeeper throughout his career, Woodman played for a host of different sides during his career, most notably making over 150 appearances for Northampton Town in the late 90s.

Woodman joined Bromley in 2021 after spells as goalkeeping coach at several Premier League clubs, including Arsenal.

He has had a successful spell at Hayes Lane so far after winning the FA Trophy and guiding the club to promotion from the National League alongside the Spireites, as they achieved promotion to the EFL for the first time in their history.

Player-in-focus

The Spireites are no strangers to coming up against Michael Cheek, who currently leads the League Two goalscoring charts alongside James Berry, both having scored five goals.

The 33-year-old has scored nine times in 13 appearances against Chesterfield and scored all three goals for the Ravens as they lost 4-3 in North Derbyshire last season.

Cheek got his first EFL goal against Harrogate Town on the first day of the season and hasn’t shown any sign of slowing down, scoring three times in his last four games, including the equaliser against MK Dons last time out.
