“Hopefully I can get the fans off their seats and be exciting“

Dylan Duffy spoke to 1866+ after completing his loan move to the Spireites from Lincoln City until the end of the season, saying: “I’m very excited. I can’t wait to get going and really looking forward to it.

“It all happened so quick. I literally woke up, got in my car and came straight here. I’m looking forward to the rest of the season and hopefully I can help the club finish as high as possible this season.

“I spoke to the gaffer and it’s all positive. Everything he’s saying is exactly what I want so at the end of the day, I feel like it’s a good fit right now.

“I can’t wait. I’ve heard loads [about Paul Cook]. I’ve known about the gaffer for a long time. I think everyone knows him, but speaking to my agent and people at Lincoln, everyone was really positive and had good things to say about him.”

Duffy, who is primarily a left winger, revealed that his idol growing up was Gareth Bale.

Speaking about his playing style and what Spireites fans can expect, Duffy said: “Hopefully I can get the fans off their seats and be exciting. I’m a wide player so I want to get balls into the box and hopefully chip in with a few goals.

“I went over [to Lincoln] as an out and out winger and I ended up, last season, playing every position on the whole pitch. Between the gaffer [Michael Skubala], Tom Shaw, Chris Cohen and the lads that are there, they’ve helped me develop my game, especially defensively, because I was playing as a wing-back the majority of my time there.”

The Irishman has played against Chesterfield at the SMH Group Stadium, for Lincoln City, in the Vertu Trophy. The game finished 1-0 to the Spireites, thanks to a Connor Cook goal.

On the game, Duffy stated: “I thought you were really good side, I like the way that you were playing, the fact that you like to keep the ball and build. All stuff like that really excites me.”

Before joining Lincoln in January 2023, Duffy played in Ireland for Shamrock Rovers and UCD Dublin.

“I started off under 15 for Shamrock Rovers. I was there for four years and after that I went to UCD Dublin. I was there for a year before I came over to England, signed for Lincoln and I’ve been there ever since.

“When I was a kid, I played Gaelic but other than that, just football. Football mad.”
