Ahead of tomorrow’s game at Swindon Town, Paul Cook gave his thoughts.
Firstly speaking on Armando Dobra’s new contract, he said: “I think it’s great news for everyone connected with the club, it’s great news for the squad, it’s great news for the supporters.
“It’s great news for Ash, for Phil, the people who run the club. Because, like all teams, you’re as good as your players, it doesn’t matter what club you’re at.
“Armando, over his period here now, has been fantastic. He’s growing as a player, he’s growing as a young man, his numbers now are really good. I think he’s on 11 goals this year.
“His attitude about football, he’s everything I like about football. He doesn’t like losing. He’s a competitor. He’s fiercely competitive. He’s fiercely driven and he wants to be a footballer.”
Speaking on the reserve game in midweek, the manager added: “Those games are for lads to show themselves, but if you look from one to 11 in the game, it probably epitomises what a good club I feel we are.
“The attitude to a reserve game was like it was a proper football game and that was credit to Preston who came and took part in a really good game as well.
“Our lads were clearly at it and the performance warranted the result, so in general our lads are what they are, we know them we see them every day.”
When asked about Kane Drummond’s performance after netting twice in the game, Cook said: “Kane’s certainly a young lad who’s got a bright future, he’s probably turned down a move or two latterly because he really wants to be part of this football club and that’s great credit to him.”
Previewing the game against Swindon, Cook added: “They’re in great form so we’ve got a really difficult game tomorrow, but again we’ll be playing against a team trying to win the game.
“Ian (Holloway) has done a great job since he’s gone in there and I’m sure they’ve got still aspirations no different than ourselves, but to get anywhere you’ve got to win football games.
“You can talk as much as you want, but if you want to be a successful club you’ve got to win and unfortunately for us at the minute our inconsistency has been our consistency.”
