Manager’s thoughts ahead of Notts match

Paul Cook spoke to the media ahead of tomorrow’s fixture at Notts County, and began with a reflection on the 4-0 win over Salford in midweek: “”We’ve been on a bad run; losing four games on the bounce is never a nice feeling for any club, no matter where you are.

“On Tuesday night, the lads did great. It was a difficult pitch against a decent team. The sending off had a massive influence on the game like it does on any game. But we managed the rest of the game really professionally and did well to come away with three points and obviously we move on to Saturday.

“This league has been consistently inconsistent all year, I think there’s so many teams still looking at what they can do and we’re very much just moving on to the next game.”

Speaking on the remainder of the season, he added: “It’s our first year in the league, everyone has lists of headaches and problems they’ve had all year and referee indecisions. We’re getting to that stage of the season where everyone enjoys it, there’s so much to play for. Our big thing about tomorrow is to go and do our best to win the game.”

“Chesterfield Football Club is a good football club, it’s a happy club, it’s a good place to be and we will grow and get stronger. Sometimes maybe not at the pace people want, but that’s football.

“Our identity is a clear one from behind the scenes and we carry that forward.”

The manager then looked ahead to tomorrow’s fixture, saying: “We always have good games with them, it’s always been that way, so tomorrow we are going to look at the game a little bit differently in how we prepare for it and how we go about it.

“The three-game week is tough for all teams who’ve played the three games, but especially when you’re getting more stretched, so we’ve got to be quite cute and clever tomorrow.

“I really like Notts County, I like the way they play. Stuart Maynard is a really good guy, he’s had a baptism in the last year of learning about the club, the league and this year they’re doing ever so well.”
