League Two line-up confirmed

With the culmination of the play-off campaigns, we now know the full line-up for the 2025/26 League Two season.

Doncaster Rovers, Port Vale, Bradford City and AFC Wimbledon have all been promoted to League One, while Carlisle United and Morecambe have been relegated to the National League.

Coming down from the third tier we welcome Crawley Town, Bristol Rovers, Cambridge United and Shrewsbury Town.

Chesterfield have only been in the same division as Crawley twice – the 2014/15 League One season and, most recently, the 2017/18 League Two campaign. The Spireites won the away fixture but were beaten at the SMH Group Stadium.

Apart from a 2023 pre-season friendly, it has been eight years since the Blues have faced Bristol Rovers in league fixtures. Similar to Crawley, both sides secured a win apiece with the home sides coming out on top.

The 2017/18 season was the last time Chesterfield encountered Cambridge in competitive action. Both games were won by the U’s – winning 2-1 in Cambridgeshire and 3-2 in North Derbyshire.

Lastly, the Spireites travel to Shropshire for the first time since the 2016/17 campaign. That year, Chesterfield suffered a narrow loss on the road and battled to pick up a home draw.

In the National League, Barnet beat York City to the league title after a hard-fought battle. Oldham Athletic beat FC Halifax Town, York and Southend United to win promotion via the play-offs.

Paul Cook’s side are no strangers to Barnet; Dean Brennan’s side finished second the year that the Blues won the National League. Chesterfield came away with six points from those two games, winning 4-2 at home and 2-0 at The Hive.

The Spireites have had plenty of battles with Oldham over the years and the two teams will go at it again next term. In the 2023/24 season, they could not be separated as they drew 1-1at the SMH Group Stadium and then 2-2 at Boundary Park.
