Jack Lester signed his first professional contract with Grimsby Town in 1994 after coming through the academy. The striker played 167 times in his six years at Blundell Park, scoring 25 times. He also helped Grimsby to a Second Division play-off and Football League Trophy win during the 1997/98 season. He left the club in 2000 to join Nottingham Forest.

After Lester’s second stint at the City Ground came to an end in 2007, he signed for Chesterfield on a free transfer. Similar to his time at Grimsby, he spent six years in North Derbyshire. He is regarded as one of the club’s best ever players, scoring 94 times in 219 appearances. Lester fired the Spireites to the League Two title in 2011 and captained the side to a Johnstone’s Paint Trophy triumph in 2012. Lester left Chesterfield following the conclusion of the 2012/13 season.
