The Spireites ended their pre-season schedule with a 4-1 defeat to Championship side Sheffield United at the SMH Group Stadium.
Vontae Daley-Campbell and Lee Bonis were brought into the starting line-up for Devan Tanton and Will Grigg.
It took four minutes for the away side to take the lead; Louie Barry’s cut-back was slotted into the back of the net by Jefferson Caceres.
Sheffield United quickly went on the hunt for a second and Tom Cannon found Zach Hemming in the way as the goalkeeper turned his shot around the post.
Ehjie Ukaki added a second for the Championship outfit in the 13th minute. Barry, once again the provider, found the winger, who place his effort into the goal.
A third goal came about just after the half hour mark. Anel Ahmedhodzic beat Hemming to Gus Hamer’s free-kick and glanced his header home.
Chesterfield had been playing some nice stuff but couldn’t quite find the finishing touch – Chey Dunkley headed wide from Dylan Duffy’s corner.
Dilan Markanday found himself through on goal in the 37thminute but found Michael Cooper in the way of his shot. Bonis pounced and scored the rebound to reduce the deficit.
The striker had the ball in the back of the net again just five minutes later as he tapped home after Duffy’s effort was palmed into his path. Unfortunately, the linesman’s flag denied the Northern Ireland international a second of the day.
Seven minutes into the second half, United restored their three-goal advantage. Half-time substitute Callum O’Hare rolled the ball across the box for Tom Cannon to apply the first-time finish.
Efforts were few and far between as the second half continued with pre-season coming to a close.
Ryan Oné saw his close-range effort clatter off the post and Andre Brooks fired over from a couple of yards as the game finished 4-1.
