“I’m starting to get there”

Following injury in pre-season, Fulham loanee Devan Tanton has returned to action in recent fixtures against Crewe Alexandra and Walsall.

After coming back into the fold, he spoke to 1866+ to discuss his recovery and the upcoming fixture against MK Dons.

Tanton began by speaking about his injury, saying: “It was unfortunate to get a bit of a freak injury in pre-season. I can’t really blame myself or anything, it was just a bad combination of metal studs and astroturf by the side of the pitch.

“After coming back, I’ve just been working my way back into the into the team in training and checking in with my body and to make sure everything is ticking over.

“I’m starting to get there, I’m feeling good, excited to get back to my best level and to show it consistently for the club.”

After spending time with the club last season, Tanton will be looking to get plenty of League Two games under his belt to add to the experience he already possesses within his diverse footballing background.

“I don’t feel like I’m there yet in terms of my best football being shown, but I think that I’ll definitely come very soon,” Tanton said. “I do feel a bit more acclimated with the style of the league and how we want to play and impose our own style, as well as with the messages from the staff and from the club.

“I feel like being in Spain (at a younger age) helped me on the ball and being able to be comfortable on the ball. That’s a big part of their game over there. And then some of the more physical attributes of English football, I’ve been able to gain in my time here, so I feel like it’s coming together nicely for me.

“I’m trying to express that sort of footballing background in how I play. Players have different style and it’s about how you solve those sorts of problems. That’s football at the end of the day; being able to solve problems and express yourself.”

Looking ahead to the visit of MK Dons, Tanton added: “It’s been enjoyable preparing for such a good team; a team that wants to impose their style as well. I typically feel like those games are much more enjoyable for both players and fans to watch, because you have two teams that are really going at it.”
