Ahead of Tuesday evening’s Vertu Trophy group stage game against Burton Albion, first-team coach Paddy Byrne spoke exclusively to 1866+ to preview the fixture.
He began with his thoughts on the disappointing weekend result at Colchester, saying: “We watched it back on the way home, we went through it again yesterday morning, and then went through it again with the players, and that wasn’t good viewing.
“We are disappointed with the performance level that we put in and the result of the game. We’re hurting, but with football, games come thick and fast and we have another game where we’ll be looking to go and give a good account of ourselves.”
Will Grigg hobbled off the field on Saturday afternoon after picking up an injury, and Byrne explained the current outlook.
“We’ve not got an update at the minute,” he said. “Griggy was assessed yesterday and he went for a scan this morning, so hopefully it’s better news, but at the minute, we’re unsure.”
Speaking about the Burton Albion preparations, he added: “We’re going to fully attack the game, we’ll be using a full first-team squad within the game.
“We want to go and give a better account of ourselves than we did at the weekend, so we’ll be looking to come into the game strong and on the front-foot.”
