First-team coach Gary Roberts sat down with the press on Friday morning ahead of the weekend’s Sky Bet League Two fixture at home to Barnet.
Firstly, providing detail on Dilan Markanday’s injury, he said: “It’s not the worst injury, it’s just the position it’s in. You’ve just got to tread carefully with it for the first couple of weeks, but after that he’ll be back running, so best case would probably be four weeks and worst case six.
“With the injuries, especially with the last couple of hamstrings we’ve had, we’ve had the worst possible news.
“You’re happily unhappy, really. It’s not the worst case, but we’ll miss him for a small time.”
He then discussed an important point on the road against Cambridge on Tuesday evening.
“It was a physical game,” he said. “In the (windy) conditions and with the pitch, we stuck at it and we still had energy going into it.
“We thought we were the team pushing on and we got caught once or twice on the break, but we were pushing and I thought we showed good energy to get the goal late on.
“We rested up Wednesday and Thursday morning and hopefully we’ve got our energy back to go again.”
Taking a look at Barnet, he said: “We’ve got so much respect for them, they’ve come through the leagues with us and we know the manager really well.
“They probably epitomise what their manager wants, they leave every breath on the pitch. If they go one-nil up, they never take a step back.
“They always go again for the second or third goal and they’ve been like that since day one. They’ve got good players and they’ve got a little bit of experience especially at the top end.
“There’s no surprise that they’re doing really well in this league. We’ve had some real ding-dong battles with them over the years and I don’t think this will be any different.”
