As announced exclusively on 1866 Sport, Chesterfield FC Women will end the season with a game against SJR Worksop at the SMH Group Stadium. The match will be played on Sunday, April 12 (2pm).
Michelle Slater, head of women’s and girls’ development, gave her reaction to the news, saying: “To play our last game at the stadium will be amazing. The club has been amazing with the women’s team and we want to try and be a big part of this community.
“We play our games up at Debdale, which is the right place for us at this moment in time, but to actually play at the stadium and involve the community and get some fans in there as well to support us, it’s what we’ve been waiting for. If we get a great turnout and really get behind the girls, it’ll be a special day.”
Summing up the season so far, Michelle added: “We started off a little bit slow and as the season went along we just got better and better. We’ve got ourselves into a good position. We have attracted new players and I think that’s partly because we are now Chesterfield FC Women and having that badge and playing for the club has attracted some players to us.
“So we’ve got a good squad of players, they’ve all worked really hard, they know what they’ve got to do. Three games left and a County Cup final, they know what they’ve got to do and hopefully we can get three wins and a nice cup final, that’ll be a brilliant season.
“We amalgamated with Chesterfield Ladies and they’ve been in this league for a number of years and came close for three years. They finished second for three years. If we were to get over the line this year, that would be great.
“We’re playing Tier 5 football at the moment to get to Tier 4 and then become part of that National League will be great.”
