Match preview: Solihull Moors (a)

The Spireites’ season goes on, as they face their biggest game over the last few years this afternoon, when they take on Solihull Moors in a National League play-off semi-final at Damson Park.

It’s one of the toughest tests in the National League for the Blues, with Solihull only being defeated once in their previous 21 league fixtures.

Chesterfield’s squad has been weakened with the loss of striker Danny Rowe, but as we’ve seen many times in football, anything is possible.

There’s no doubt that the lads will leave everything on that pitch, and after an impressive victory over Halifax last time out, confidence in the camp will be running high.

Here’s all you need to know…

Highlights of the game will also be posted to our YouTube Channel.

Paul Cook expressed that it would be hard to change much of the team that started at Halifax on Tuesday, after an impressive performance.

Danny Rowe will not feature in this fixture. The striker went straight to hospital after coming off as a substitute on Tuesday, and later revealed on his Instagram that his season was over.

Nathan Tyson and Tom Denton both made the bench last time out and will be hoping they can prove to the gaffer that they are the best option to replace Rowe on the team sheet. Meanwhile, Akwasi Asante and Joe Quigley will be hoping they pass their fitness tests ahead of the big game.

Curtis Weston, who was left out of the squad against Halifax, will be doing everything he can to earn his place in the matchday squad.

Solihull Moors have never featured in the Football League and have spent their short time as a club in and around the non-league pyramid.

Their gaffer, Neal Ardley, has had National League play-off experience before when he was the manager of Notts County, who subsequently lost to Harrogate Town in the final. Ardley will be looking to better that this time out at his new club.

Solihull Moors have endured a great season, finishing in third place. They have only lost seven times over the entire 2021/22 league campaign, making them the hardest team to beat in the National League.
