Winger signs for Spireites

Chesterfield have signed Jesurun Uchegbulam from Matlock Town for an undisclosed fee, subject to FA and National League approval.

The winger signed after impressing during Chesterfield’s recent pre-season fixture at the Proctor Cars Stadium.

After signing for the Spireites, the player said: “It’s a surreal feeling. Obviously, I played against Chesterfield and I didn’t think too much of it.

“The next day I spoke to the manager, and it has all just gone from there. I’ve got no words. It’s my first time signing for a club this big and I just can’t wait to get going.

“I would describe myself as explosive, very quick, a bit of a flair player. I like to entertain the crowd. I’ve got an eye for an assist; I’ve got an eye for a goal but, ultimately, I like to just enjoy my football.”

Uchegbulam was born in Nigeria but started his career in the youth ranks of Italian giants AC Milan.

Upon leaving Italy, the forward moved to England and had trials with the likes of Sheffield Wednesday, Wigan Athletic and Brentford.

He also had spells with non-league sides Mossley and Stockport Town before joining the Gladiators in the summer of 2021.

In the 12 months that Uchegbulam spent with Matlock, the 21-year-old became a fans’ favourite and scored nine goals for the Northern Premier League outfit as they missed out on promotion to the National League North.
