Chesterfield Football Club are delighted to announce the signing of midfielder George McEachran from Grimsby Town on a contract until summer 2028.
McEachran began his career in Chelsea’s Academy, where he spent 13 years and later gained experience in the Netherlands during loan spells with SC Cambuur and MVV Maastricht. The 25-year-old joined Swindon Town in February 2023, making 58 appearances before departing the club and signing for Grimsby Town ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.
Operating mainly as a defensive midfielder, McEachran made 92 appearances during his two-year spell at Grimsby Town, contributing two goals and two assists. His consistent performances saw him named the Mariners’ Player of the Season following an impressive first campaign.
The former England youth international was also part of the Young Lions squad that won the 2017 FIFA U17 World Cup in India.
Sharing his thoughts, McEachran said: “I was buzzing when I heard from my agent that Chesterfield were interested, so I can’t wait to get started. Having come up against them during my time at Grimsby, I always found them a difficult side to play against, but it suits my style of play, so I think Chesterfield will suit me well.”
McEachran said he believes the club has a strong squad, as well as excellent facilities at the SMH Group Stadium and the Erwin Training Ground. He added: “The club has a clear ambition to achieve promotion to League One. I fell short of promotion with Grimsby last season, as Chesterfield did, so hopefully we can go one step further and get promoted this year.
“I am looking forward to going to the Erwin training ground every day because the facilities are good and so are the training pitches, so I’m excited to be here.”
First-team coach, Danny Webb, stated: “We’re pleased to welcome George to the Spireites. He is a highly intelligent player with excellent awareness on the pitch, and his experience in League Two will be a real asset to the squad. He is perfectly suited to our style of play, so we’re excited to see the impact he will make.”
