Chesterfield Football Club are delighted to announce the permanent signing of defender Alfie Pond from Wolverhampton Wanderers on a contract until summer 2028.
Pond began his youth career at Exeter City and made his first-team debut in the EFL Trophy in a 1–1 draw with Chelsea U21 at St James Park.
The central defender signed for Wolves in 2022. He made five first-team appearances across his time in the West Midlands, including his Premier League debut in November 2024 against Fulham, and captained the U21 side.
The 22-year-old has spent time on loan at Yeovil Town and Stockport County before spending the second half of last season on loan at Crewe Alexandra, where he made 19 League Two appearances and scored two goals.
After making the switch to North Derbyshire, Pond said: “I’m really happy. Obviously, it came about quite quickly. As soon as I spoke to the gaffer and it came about, I was really happy, and I’m buzzing to be here.
“The pitches at the training ground are really nice, and obviously, I played in the stadium last season, so I’ve seen what it’s like on a matchday and been involved in the atmosphere – which is really good.
Pond admitted this permanent move is “a fresh start” after multiple loan spells and inconsistent minutes at Wolves. He added: “It’s probably needed and I’m really happy to be in new surroundings. I’m just ready to get going.”
Commenting on the young defender’s arrival, assistant manager Danny Webb said: “We’ve got our hands on an excellent young footballer who has great ability and a strong knowledge of the level.
“He comes through the door with a good understating of the expectations and ambitions of our football club, and we hope he will play an important role in a successful season.”
