Debut heroics from Joel Randall rescued a dramatic 3-3 draw against unbeaten Barnet, whilst Louie Marsh grabbed a brace in his first start for the club.
Paul Cook made three changes to the side that drew 1-1 in midweek, handing a debut to Alfie Pond whilst also providing first starts for Fraser Bryden and Marsh.
Dean Brennan made two changes to his lineup as they looked to continue their unbeaten run to start the season with Tom Knowles and Nnamdi Ofobohr coming into the 11.
Both sides struggled to get into their stride with the most notable moment being Dean Brennan being booked on the touchline.
A fiery altercation between Remeao Hutton and Idris Kanu saw the former picking up a booking for a push on the Bees’ fullback.
Kabongo Tshimanga got in behind the backline before rolling the ball to Charlie Lakin whose shot was blocked by the legs of Ryan Boot. The resulting corner was played short where Lakin and Knowles linked up before the latter whipped a curling shot into the top left corner.
Chesterfield looked to respond straight away, Dilan Markanday finding space on the left-hand side, but his crosses were dealt with by Barnet’s backline.
Barnet had the chance to make it 2-0 after Tshimanga found Lakin but his tame finish rolled into Boot’s grasp.
A moment of magic drew the Spireites level. A long throw by Hutton was initially cleared, but it fell to Marsh who volleyed from the edge of the area into the top right corner leaving Matthew Cox with no chance.
A high-quality piece of skill from the loanee to open his account for his new club.
Barnet weren’t level for long though, scoring just seconds before the half time whistle. A delivery from Knowles was met by Zac Williams to put the Bees in front before halftime.
Boot was called into action early on to deny Lakin with a superb save before a sprawling block by Hutton deflected Kanu’s shot away from danger.
As the Spireites looked to claw their way back into the game, Cook brought on Josh Koroma and Lee Bonis for Mandeville and Bryden.
The home side were growing in the game, playing fluid football and creating chances, most notably a deep cross from Hutton found fellow fullback Lewis Gordon but his volley flew agonisingly over the crossbar.
The growing pressure paid off with Louie Marsh finding the back of the net for the second time. Hutton cut the ball back to Markanday whose shot was saved by Cox, but Marsh was there to tap into an empty net.
The high paced game looked set to finish 2-2, but a late goal from former Spireite, Tshimanga slotted home in the 88th minute put the Bees in front.
Substitutes Bonis and Randall combined with the latter nodding the ball home on the goal line to make it 3-3 and rescue a point at the SMH Group Stadium.
