Paul Cook met with the media on Friday ahead of the League Two clash away to Cheltenham Town.
Speaking on the progress the squad has made, Cook said: “The last fortnight has been good for us in terms of getting lads minutes, as well as it being a chance for our supporters to see all of our players individually and collectively.
“We have had two good results against Man City and Port Vale which has obviously helped put our dressing room into a good place.”
The Chesterfield manager then spoke about Josh Koroma’s call up the Sierra Leone national squad: “I think a few weeks ago it would have been a problem, it was difficult early on because we were clearly short on number and changes in certain areas of the pitch
“We now go into tomorrow’s game with lads on international duty, and we don’t feel it damages or hurts the squad too much. Losing Josh is a blow, of course it is, but the reality is we have players chomping away to play.”
Cook spoke briefly on how the squad will not get carried away after being unbeaten in the past six in all competitions. He said: “Looking at a team and saying they are in form can be quite tedious, but it is a long campaign and each team will have their highs and lows.
“Like every team you find out a lot about your players when you give them time to show what they can do. There is such a long way to go and we just want to get aligned with what we are trying to do as quickly as possible.”
He concluded the interview by discussing Cheltenham Town and their manager Steve Cotterill, saying: “He’s outstanding, got a really strong CV and is a proven, quality manager. Cheltenham are now being spoken about as a team that could be up there at the end of the season and that is credit to Steve and his coaching staff.
“You only have to look at their results to know how difficult of a game it is going to be. Like for every team, we are preparing as best we can and making sure we are ready.”
