The Spireites secured all three points at the Technique Stadium, with an impressive 4-1 win over Scunthorpe United on New Year’s Day.
The result completed the double following a victory for the Spireites in the reverse fixture on Boxing Day.
First-half goals from Armando Dobra and Akwasi Asante sent the Spireites into half time with a 2-1 lead, then a sublime second half free-kick from Jeff King and a goal from Kabongo Tshimanga capped off a fantastic display by the Spireites.
King had the Spireites’ first chance of the game, as he attempted a cross from the right-hand side that was heading towards goal, Marcus Dewhurst in the Scunthorpe goal had to tip it over the bar.
The Spireites had another chance when a cross form the left-hand side found Liam Mandeville inside the penalty area, however, he couldn’t get a good connection and Dewhurst saved.
Scunthorpe took the lead in the 20th minute. Alfie Beestin struck the ball from the edge of the area, forcing a great save from Ross Fitzsimons. Cameron Wilson hit the rebound into the goal.
The Spireites equalised in the 27th minute. The ball was crossed into the box and Dobra struck the loose ball into the roof of the net, on the half volley.
The Spireites came close to taking the lead late in the second half, Joe Quigley fizzed the ball across the box, finding Asante whose effort was deflected wide.
The Spireites took the lead in second minute of added time in the first half. Asante received the ball with his back to goal inside the box, turned and slotted the ball past Dewhurst.
The Spireites went into half time with a 2-1 lead.
Mandeville had a chance for the Spireites early in the second half, with an attempt inside the penalty area, he struck the ball over the bar.
Bailey Clements came close for the Spireites when Darren Oldaker threaded a great ball down the left-hand side, Clements got a shot away, but his attempt went over.
King doubled the Spireites’ lead in the 84th minute with a sublime free kick from around 20 yards out. King struck the ball with his right foot, the ball hit the underside of the bar and went in.
Substitute Tshimanga put the Spireites 4-1 in the 86th minute. Tshimanga latched onto a ball over the top of the defence skipped past one defender and slotted the ball away.
Attention will now turn to next Saturday’s third round FA Cup tie against Championship West Brom.
