Women lose in season opener

Chesterfield FC Women lost 6-0 at Altofts in the opening game of the season.

It was a new-look Spireites side with five of the new players making their debut.

They headed into this game knowing it was going to be tough, coming up against a well organised and experienced Altofts side.

The opposition only lost three games last season.

The Spireites went 2-0 down in the first ten minutes and really struggled to get going.

After 15 minutes, it was 3-0 to the hosts.

Chesterfield had a spell in the second half where they stayed organised and kept Altofts at bay before the home side added three further goals.

Manager Andrea Parkinson gave her thoughts on the game, saying: “The focus was staying disciplined out of possession and looking after the ball in possession.

“In the second half we created chances and tested their keeper but unfortunately couldn’t find the back of the net.

“We will reset, refocus and go again next weekend.”
