Andrea Parkinson, manager of Chesterfield FC Women, was delighted to see her team win their first ever FA Cup fixture, delivering a convincing 3-0 victory over Grimsby Borough in the first qualifying round.
Andrea said: “The team performed really well. Watching some of the periods of play was phenomenal, really.
“I just said to them at the end, not only have we got round to the second qualifying round, but we’ve beaten a team 3-0 that are in our league, so loads of positives to take from the game.
“I thought we really dominated actually, had a lot of the ball, some of the chances were half chances, but again, you can’t go wrong with a 3-0 win, especially the first game of the season at home.
On the strong support for the women, Andrea added: “Thank you to the supporters, I did a quick count and there was probably touching 100. So again, a massive thank you to the supporters for coming out and watching and hopefully we’ve enticed them to come back again.
With three different goal scorers, Andrea praised the attacking threat within the side: “We’ve been working a lot on the attacking phase really in training so it was good to see it come out on the pitch during a game.
“We’ve added quite a few new players into the squad so that togetherness is really important and something that we’ve been working on, on and off the pitch. It was really good for it to be on show.”
After success in the first qualifying round, Andrea gave her thoughts on facing Rotherham United next, saying: “They’ll be a good test. They’re a league above, so it’ll really test us to see where we’re at.
“We’re going to take it one game at a time and we travel to Notts County next week.”
