Buchs’ impressive landmark

On the eve of the trip to Sutton United, we reflect on David Buchanan’s landmark appearance last time out.

Buchanan made his 600th career appearance in the goal-less draw at home to Aldershot Town last Tuesday.

The left-back entered his 16th season this term in a career that has seen play for teams like Bury, Hamilton Academical, Tranmere Rovers, Preston North End and Northampton Town, together with appearances for Northern Ireland at U19 and U21 levels.

Buchanan has scored three goals in his career and has won the League One play-offs with Preston and the League Two title with Northampton.

Reacting to the achievement on Twitter, he said: “Another milestone reached in my career… Big thanks to all my teammates, clubs, coaches, friends and family who have supported me all the way! 600 not out.”

A number of Buchanan’s team-mates, both past and present, congratulated the full-back on social media.

Tom Denton tweeted his appreciation, saying: “Love it Buchs pleasure to play with.”

Young Spireites player Regan Hutchinson said: “Massive achievement Buchsy, top pro and top player! Congrats.”

Ashton Taylor, who is currently at Aberdeen, spent time with the 34-year-old at Tranmere and Preston. He commented: “Outstanding achievement mate! Proper professional.”

The defender also received plenty of well wishes from fans, journalists and clubs on Twiiter.

Chesterfield reporter for the Derbyshire Times Liam Norcliffe, Chesterfield reporter for the Derbyshire Times, tweeted: “Great achievement Buchs! Still going strong.”

talkSPORT’s Ian Abrahams, also known as ‘Moose’, said: “Well done my friend – here’s to the next 600.”

Northampton Town, who Buchanan played from 2012-2015, tweeted: “Congratulations @_Buchs.”

Congratulations to Buchs on his fantastic milestone from everyone at the club!
