Cup victory for Spireites

The Spireites secured their place in the Emirates FA Cup second round with an impressive 1-0 against Northampton Town at the Technique Stadium. Armando Dobra’s excellent strike was the only goal of the game.

The Spireites started the game well, recycling possession and keeping Northampton in their own half.

The Spireites took the lead in the 14th minute through Dobra, who received the ball on the edge of the area, worked the ball onto his right foot and curled it into the top corner.

Kieran Bowie almost equalised for Northampton after receiving a through ball, sending him one-on-one. He tried to beat Ross Fitzsimons at his near post, but his effort hit the woodwork.

Northampton came close again when Jon Guthrie met the ball at the back post with his head, however Tyrone Williams managed to clear his attempt away.

The Spireites went into half time with a 1-0 lead, having been the more impressive side in the first 45 minutes.

Mitch Pinnock had a chance to equalise for Northampton with an attempt at the near post, his attempt was blocked, resulting in a corner.

Jeff King fizzed an attempt across goal for the Spireites, however Lee Burge in the Northampton goal managed to catch his attempt.

Northampton had a chance when Ben Fox took at shot around the penalty spot, but it was well caught by Fitzsimons.

The Spireites defended well during the closing stages of the game, staying compact and limiting the amount of chances Northampton could create.

Pinnock had a chance to equalise at the death for Northampton, but he blazed his effort over the bar.

Attention will now turn to next Tuesday’s away league fixture against Wealdstone.
