James Rowe has spoken of his pride at managing Chesterfield after being overwhelmed by the response from supporters to the club’s crowdfunding appeal.
The £10,000 target set to purchase sports science equipment was reached just two days after being launched.
Commenting on the response, Rowe said: “I’ve honestly never witnessed anything like that since I’ve been involved in football as a young lad. To do that in two days just shows the calibre of the club.
“It’s not the monetary value, it’s the gesture. The fact that people have come forward shows a great togetherness.
“It’s a remarkable gesture and everybody is talking about it, including the players. We can go a long way here. We’ve just got to start believing we can and this is the start of that process.
“I’m proud to manage a club like this and what we’ve got to do is make sure the team now mirrors the community here. The club is a community club now and we’re together.
“It’s a working class community and we’ve got to make sure we work hard on the pitch. When you get that matched up, anything’s possible.”
