The Spireites welcome Colchester United to the SMH Group Stadium for the first of back-to-back home games.
Chesterfield will be looking to potentially move back into the League Two play-off places.
On the other hand, Colchester will also be looking to help their play-off ambitions after a difficult recent run of form.
In the Spotlight
Colchester United have plenty of exciting attacking options such as Kyreece Lisbie, Jack Payne, Harry Anderson, Micha Mbick and Samson Tovide.
Lisbie especially has caught the eye of supporters, with ten goals and four assists to his name.
He netted once and provided two assists during the reverse fixture back in October.
The gaffer’s record
In eight previous meetings with Colchester United, Paul Cook has won four, drawn once and lost three times.
His one victory with the Spireites saw Gary Roberts (x2), Sam Clucas (x2), Dan Gardner and Jimmy Ryan all get on the scoresheet.
Since the Blues returned to the EFL, Colchester have not lost in the three meetings between the two clubs.
Man in the middle
Simon Mather has previously referee Chesterfield on eight occasions – the last being a 1-0 away win against Barrow last season.
The Spireites have won four of those games, drawn two and have also lost twice.
In his 289 games, 70 of which were League Two fixtures, he has awarded 1,005 yellow cards, 58 red cards and has awarded 65 penalties.
Paul Cook’s thoughts
“We’re preparing for a very good Colchester team, which is what they are. They’ve had a good season.
“They’re certainly a play-off contender, with every right to be that. They’re a very young, hungry, aggressive team who play a good brand of football and attack, so I’m sure it’ll be a good game.”
