Narrow defeat for women’s team

Chesterfield FC Women went down to a 2-1 defeat at home to Ossett United.

In a match played at Gosforth Fields in Dronfield Woodhouse, the Spireites line-up included five players under the age of 18.

The game started with Ossett on the front foot and the Spireites could have conceded on a number of occasions, however Carroll made some fantastic saves to keep the scores level.

Ossett found a way to break through to take the lead but the Spireites reacted well and soon equalised through Foster.

In the second half, again there nothing much between the teams and Carroll kept the score at 1-1 with brave keeping and being confident to receive the ball from her back four to help keep possession

Unfortunately, one slip of focus from the back four led to Ossett scored their second goal.

The Spireites had chances but unfortunately they could not find the back of the net.

Player of the Match: Carroll.

Thanks go to the supporters who turned out to support the team.

Before the kick-off, both teams observed a minute’s silence in memory of Maddy Cusack, the former Sheffield United player who passed away at the age of 27 earlier this week.

The thoughts of everyone at the club remain with Maddy’s friends, family and team-mates at this extremely difficult time
