New investors revealed at AGM

Brothers Phil and Ashley Kirk were introduced to shareholders at the Annual General Meeting on Wednesday evening as new investors who will put an initial £1m into the club.

Phil, who made his fortune in the oil industry, explained: “We’ve agreed to put a million pounds into the club. Half the money is going to general and then half the money at the moment we’re looking to help build the sports bar and get that off the ground.

“We’ll keep talking to the directors and trustees, who’ve done a fantastic job in the last two years.

“I’m so proud of the town, proud of Derbyshire and proud of the team and just to be able to put some money in and help is great. Our only wish is to do good for the town and the club.”

Commenting on the possibility of new signings being made, Phil added: “We’ve rushed it for the deadline and I know Paul (Cook) is looking at a few ideas.”

Chairman Mike Goodwin is delighted to have secured vital funding. He said: “It’s fantastic news. A million pounds of investment in the club at this stage is amazing to us.

“We are a charity and it is difficult to keep the club sustainable. Cash flow is always a problem.”

The pair hail from Chesterfield, with Ashley still residing in the town. As part of the agreement, he will join the board.
