Post-match analysis: “We can play better”

John Pemberton was delighted with his side’s 4-0 victory at home to Woking while pointing out that they can play better.

In his post-match interview, the manager said: “We looked strong and we definitely look fit enough. That’s our second game that we have played properly,

“We played a good side who are in good form and you can see why they have won two games. They are quite strong and good from set-pieces.

“I thought we stood up to it really well. There was a lot of discipline in the team when we had to defend and I’m really pleased to get the result we got.

“It was a tough game and we can play better, but I said all along that we needed more games.”

Academy graduate Luke Rawson netted his first two goals for Chesterfield and the manager heaped praised on the young forward.

He said: “I’m delighted for Luke to get his goals. He’s been waiting for an opportunity. I’ve got to nurture him in the right way.

“I said he’s been crying out for a goal and he got his goal and then he gets another one! That is what he has got.

“I don’t want to put all the pressure on him because we have got to look after him. I hope him and [Jamie] Sharman will be the future of this club for quit a few years to come.”

New signings Alex Kiwomya and Tyler Denton both featured with Kiwomya starting and Denton coming on in the second half.

Commenting on their performances, Pemberton said: “I thought Alex, when he went out wide to deal with the full-back, showed discipline and dealt with him.

“Tyler has been training with us for just over two weeks now but showed a lot of discipline. You can see that he is a defender, and he is defensive minded. That was a help for [David] Buchanan.”

The Spireites are next in action on Tuesday evening when they travel to Torquay United.
