Select Group to take charge on Wednesday evening

A Select Group of match officials will take charge for Wednesday night’s prestigious fixture at the Technique Stadium between Real Betis and Olympique de Marseille.

As the fixture involves two top European  teams, The FA has appointed a Select Group, featuring some of the highest-rated officials in the country.

Premier League referee Graham Scott has been named as the man in the middle for the fixture, with Wade Smith, Steve Meredith and James Bell as his assistants.

Scott officiated his first Premier League match in November 2014 for the 1-1 draw between Burnley and Aston Villa at Turf Moor.

The Oxfordshire-born referee officiated non-league and FA Cup first round matches from 2006/07 before joining the National List of referees at the beginning of the 2008/09 season and has since overseen nearly 100 Premier League fixtures.

Ahead of the 2015/16 Premier League season, Scott was promoted into the Select Group, a group designed to officiate Premier League and FA Cup fixtures.

The Berks & Bucks FA official has also refereed cup fixtures at Stamford Bridge, home of Chelsea FC, and Southampton’s St Mary’s Stadium in recent seasons.

The 53-year-old has also been in charge of more than 550 professional football games in his career.

The likes of Dimitri Payet, Mattéo Guendouzi, Claudio Bravo and William Carvalho could all feature in the fixture, alongside many other international superstars.

Don’t miss out on your chance to watch two European giants play at the Technique Stadium!
