Spireites beat Shots

The Spireites came from behind to secure an impressive 4-1 win over Aldershot Town at the SMH Group Stadium, in their final home game of the year.

A first-half free-kick from Darren Oldaker and second-half goals from Ryan Colclough, Will Grigg and Armando Dobra meant that the Spireites gained all three points.

Paul Cook made four changes from the side that beat Hartlepool as Miguel Freckleton, Michael Jacobs, Ryan Colclough and Grigg came into the starting 11.

Aldershot took the lead in the fourth minute. The ball was put into the box and rebounded back out to Josh Stokes on the penalty spot, he then slotted the ball into the bottom left corner.

It didn’t take long for the Spireites to draw level. Dobra was pushed over on the edge of the box, resulting in a free kick from around 20 yards out, and Oldaker stepped up and curled the ball into the bottom left corner in the sixth minute.

Grigg had a great chance for the Spireites, turning and striking a loose ball, following a corner, but it was well saved.

The Spireites came close again, this time Dobra had a powerful shot blocked from inside the box, following a wide freekick.

Grigg came close again after connecting with a cross from the right-hand side, but his resulting header went narrowly wide.

The Spireites went into halftime with the score locked at 1-1.

Early in the second half Jack Barham curled a shot towards the Chesterfield goal and forced a great save from Harry Tyrer, diving to his left.

Michael Jacobs forced a great save from the Aldershot keeper after driving through the middle, beating his man, and trying to place the ball into the bottom corner, but his shot was saved.

The Spireites took the lead in the 65th minute through Colclough. He picked the ball up on the left-hand side, and from just outside the area blasted the ball across the box which found its way into the bottom corner.

The Spireites doubled their lead in the 74th minute. Substitute James Berry carried the ball to the by-line and fizzed it across the box, the keeper parried it out and it fell to the feet of Grigg who could hit the ball into an open net.

Dobra made it four for the Spireites in the 93rd minute. The ball was played across the box from the left-hand side and Dobra was there to calming side foot the ball into the net.

After this impressive win, attention will now turn to Boxing Day’s away trip to Solihull Moors.
