Spireites ease past Kettering

The Spireites secured a comfortable victory over Kettering Town in their Emirates FA Cup qualifier, winning 5-0.

Ollie Banks’ first-half goal gave the Spireites a platform to build on in the second half. And Paul Cook’s men put the game to bed in the second half with goals from Will Grigg, Darren Oldaker, Ash Palmer and Tom Naylor

The Spireites made eight changes from the side that beat Boreham Wood last Saturday, with only Brenden Horton, Grigg and Naylor keeping their places.

The Spireites dominated possession in the opening 15 minutes, but they could not carve out any clear-cut chances.

Banks went close for the Spireites with an outside of the foot shot from close range, when his effort flew across the face of goal.

The Spireites took the lead in the 37th minute. Banks headed the ball into the back of the net from the edge of the six-yard box, following a corner.

Soon after scoring, Banks nearly doubled his tally with a curling effort from the edge of the box that forced a great save from Billy Johnson.

Once again, Banks nearly added to his goal tally when he cut inside from the left-hand side and got a shot away, but his effort hit the post.

The Spireites went into the break with a 1-0 lead.

Jacobs forced a save from Johnson early in the second half with a curled effort from the edge of the box.

The Spireites doubled their lead in the 60th minute. Banks drove to the touchline and cut the ball back to Grigg who calmly tapped the ball home.

Oldaker made it three for the Spireites in the 63rd minute with a fantastic curling effort from outside the box, hitting the post as it went in.

The Spireites made it four through Palmer in the 78th minute. The ball was bouncing around the penalty area, following a corner, and Palmer was there to strike the loose ball into the back of the net.

Naylor made it five in the 85th minute when the ball fell to him on the edge of the area and he fired into the top right-hand corner with a powerful shot.

Attention will now turn to next Saturday’s home fixture against Gateshead.
