Spireites return to winning ways

The Spireites secured an impressive 4-1 victory over AFC Fylde at the SMH Group Stadium to further cement their place at the top of the National League.

Armando Dobra’s goal sent the Spireites into half time one goal to the good. And second-half goals from Mike Jones, Will Grigg and Ash Palmer meant that the Spireites came away with all three points.

Paul Cook made five changes from the side that lost to Dorking Wanderers as Ryheem Sheckleford, Branden Horton, Mike Jones, Ollie Banks, and Armando Dobra came into the starting XI.

Early in the game, Ollie Banks tried his luck from the edge of the area with a low-driven shot that went narrowly wide of the post.

Fylde had their first shot on target when Nick Haughton unleashed a powerful effort from the edge of the box, forcing a great save from Harry Tyrer.

The Spireites took the lead in the 28th minute through Dobra. Mandeville threaded a fantastic through ball that split the defence and sent Dobra one-on-one, he then calmly slotted the ball past Theo Richardson..

The Spireites doubled their lead in the 55th minute. The ball was headed away, following a corner, and the ball fell to Jones just inside the box who sweetly hit the ball on the half volley into the back of the net, for his first goal for the Spireites.

It wasn’t long before the Spireites made it three. In the 57thminute the ball was crossed in from the right-hand side, Grigg was the most alert and bundled the ball home from close range.

The Spireites conceded a penalty when the referee pointed to the spot for a handball.

Tyrer was the hero, diving to his left-hand side to save Danny Ormerod’s penalty and quickly getting up to block the rebound.

Fylde pulled a goal back in the 68th minute through Ormerod who looped the ball over the head of Tyrer from just outside the box.

Palmer reinstated the Spireites three-goal lead in the 71stminute. The ball fell to Palmer at the back post, following a corner, and he nodded the ball onto the crossbar and just over the line.

After this impressive victory, attention will now turn to Tuesday’s home fixture against Oxford City.
