Training camp at Loughborough

The players and football management/coaching staff are on a training camp in Loughborough as part of the build-up to the new season.

Explaining the thinking behind the short spell away from the Technique Stadium, James Rowe said: “It’s difficult to go abroad so we’re at Loughborough for four days. The training camp will give us four good days together.

“We’ve got some new players in the group so we need to get to know each other on a social level, but predominantly they’ll be working hard.”

The Spireites have played two pre-season fixtures so far – taking in trips to Derbyshire neighbours Alfreton Town and Matlock Town – and the manager is happy with the way things have gone so far.

“The main objective of pre-season is physical targets and the players have been superb,” he said.

The first home pre-season game is against Bradford City on Tuesday night while Port Vale visit the Technique Stadium next Saturday.
