Update on injured players

Assistant-manager Danny Webb gave an update on five players that are currently suffering from injuries.

Ollie Banks was forced off against York City during the week due to a hamstring injury and Webb gave a first diagnosis on the midfielder.

Speaking to the media, he said: “He’s come in today for his treatment. I think at the moment, without scan results, it’s not looking great.

“He certainly won’t be fit for Saturday – that goes without saying. We’re hoping it is weeks and not months.

“Ollie was brought in to be one of our main men. If you lose one of your main men, you’re not happy.

“It gives other people opportunities. It’s great that we’ve got great lads who can come in and more than step up to the plate.”

Joe Quigley has missed the last couple of games and Webb revealed that the striker almost took part in midweek’s draw.

He said: “I think he was a real close one to being involved [against York City]. If you ask me now, I think he will be alright to be involved on Saturday.

“We will see how he has reacted after the work he did yesterday with the physio.”

Jack Clarke and Michael Gyasi have both recently had a spell on the sidelines after suffering separate injuries.

Webb has provided an update on when supporters can expect to see the duo back in action.

“I think Jack and Michael are both available for selection,” Webb said. “I think the injuries that they sustained have healed.

“As far as I’m aware, it’s now just the general fitness to see if they are up to speed to get involved.

“They trained hard the last few days. We train fully again today, and I think they are available for the manager to select.”

Lucas Covolan suffered an injury during the 3-2 defeat to Dagenham & Redbridge earlier this month and has not featured in the matchday squad since.

Webb believes that the goalkeeper will spend another few weeks out before he closes in on a return.

He said: “I spoke to him yesterday and he says he has days where he gets out of bed, and he limps a bit and other days it’s not.

“While you’ve got those inconsistencies, it’s telling your body that it’s not quite there yet.”
