JOB TITLE: Head Groundsperson

LOCATION: Chesterfield FC, Technique Stadium and the club’s training ground

REPORTS TO: CEO and First Team Manager

LIAISON: First Team Management and suppliers

WORKING HOURS: 40 hours per week plus attendance at all home fixtures 

SALARY: Dependent on experience

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE ROLE 

The Head Groundsperson will be responsible for the delivery of pitch maintenance and improvement at both sites to the highest standards, managing a team of staff to deliver the highest quality playing surfaces and work flexibly due to the first team commitments.

The roles and responsibilities will include but are not limited to: 

• Presentation of all pitches to the highest standard for matches and training schedules

• Creation of work and fertiliser programmes to ensure all pitches are maintained to the highest possible standard

• Establishing and managing budgets for all aspects of work undertaken and ensuring those budgets are adhered to

• Liaising with suppliers to order products and services where required

• Ensure machinery is maintained and serviced to the required standard 

• Managing and upskilling staff to ensure they are capable of carrying out their duties in an efficient and professional manner

• Presenting and managing an end of season/close season pitch renovation programme

• Liaising with the First Team Manager and coaching staff on a daily basis to ensure pitches are appropriately prepared for training and matches

• Providing support and training to apprentices when necessary 

• Creating and maintaining relationships with key suppliers

• Any other duties as required and directed by the CEO

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

• Qualified with an NVQ Level 3 in Sports Turf Management or equivalent qualification

• Experience in working on professional sports pitches is desirable

• PA1, 2a and 6 Spraying Certificates are desirable. 

• Excellent organisational and communication skills

• Ability to work effectively, lead a team and also independently using own initiative

• Full UK driving licence
