Assistant manager Danny Webb spoke to 1866+ ahead of the Spireites’ League Two clash away at Carlisle, beginning by reflecting on the back-to-back home wins, saying: “It’s really good. Six goals in two games is fantastic, but we’ve got to follow that up with hopefully a really good performance and result at Carlisle.
“They all worked their socks off (on Tuesday), so they’ve got a bit of fitness in the tank and they’ve given the manager food for thought in terms of selection for this weekend’s game.
“We’re one less game away from Wembley too, which is always good for the supporters.
“I think Wigan were desperate to win that because they’ve been on a bad run, hence the strength of the team they put out and finished the game with. I think it’s a great tournament and if we can progress in it whilst improving our league status that would be great.”
Looking ahead to Carlisle, he added: “Tom Naylor will definitely be involved at Carlisle, a few of the other injured lads are touch and go, but the initial return date of mid-December to mid-January for most of them remains the same.
“Carlisle are a big club, I don’t think they’ll be down the bottom come the end of the season, but we want them to be bottom on Sunday morning!
“As it stands, they’re down at the bottom of the league. We’ve got to make sure that Saturday night sees us in the play-offs and them still down there.
“We’ll have to rest the lads over the busy festive period and recuperate, make sure there are no more injuries, because when you’ve got Saturday and Tuesday games with sometimes a third game thrown in, we need all the bodies we can muster.”
