The Opposition

Fact file

Name: Barnet FC

Nicknames: The Bees

Founded: 1888

Stadium: The Hive Stadium

Capacity: 6,500

Manager: Dean Brennan

On Barnet

The club was founded in Chipping Barnet, then part of Hertfordshire, in 1888. They played their home matches at Underhill Stadium from 1907 until 2013, when they moved to the new Hive Stadium in Edgware, which is named based on the club’s nickname of “the Bees”.

Barnet were first promoted to the Football League in 1991 after manager Barry Fry led them to the Conference title in 1990/91. Since then, they have spent and number of years in and out of the Football League, being promoted and relegated a number of times.

This season Barnet will be hoping they can continue their good start to the season and increase their winning form. They currently sit top of the National League table and will be hoping to stay there for as long as possible. Long-term, the club will be hoping they can regain their Football League status and with an ambitious manager at the wheel as things stand, there’s no reason the Bees can’t look to do that this season.

One to watch

Ephron Mason-Clark is an English-born forward with an eye for goal. The 22-year-old has made over 160 appearances for the Bees and scored 19 goals. He is renowned for his pace and trickery and is well liked amongst the Barnet fan base. The striker has scored two goals in four appearances so far this season.

Last time we met

The last time the two sides met was back in January 2022, the Spireites ran our 4-1 winners at The Hive Stadium that day with Kabongo Tshimanga scoring two goals, whilst Akwasi Asante and Jeff King also got a goal each.

Team news

Paul Cook could potentially look to rotate the squad with another game just three days later, with Bailey Clements, Michael Gyasi, George Cooper, Ryheem Sheckleford, Joe Cook, Kabongo Tshimanga, Jack Clarke, Mike Jones and Laurence Maguire all chomping at the bit for some more game time.

Meanwhile, Lucas Covolan is back from his suspension for this fixture. Paul Cook has to decided whether to hand the keeper an instant recall or stick with Ross Fitzsimons, who has featured in the last three games.
