On Oldham Athletic
Oldham Athletic were founded back in 1895. The club have rich history of competing in the Football League and have only recently dropped into the National League.
The club became the first former Premier League team to drop into non-league since its creation in 1992.
This season Oldham are managed by former Spireite John Sheridan, who enjoyed a successful spell at the club, achieving promotion and the League Two title in the 2010/11 season.
Oldham will have high hopes under the new ownership of achieving promotion back to the Football League at the first time of asking. They have started the season reasonably well and currently sit in 15th position.
One to watch
Mike Fondop is a Cameroon-born striker that has previously been with the Spireites. He’s a lethal finisher who plays with passion and determination. He was at the Spireites back in 2019/20, where he scored ten goals in 29 appearances.

Last time we met
The last time the two sides met was back in February 2017, the Latics winning 1-0 at Boundary Park that day.
Neither Akwasi Asante nor Armando Dobra has been fully ruled out of Saturday’s fixture, either player could still be set to feature.
Ross Fitzsimons is still at the club and will be hoping that he can push Lucas Covolan for a starting place between the sticks.
Meanwhile, players such as Bailey Clements and Rayheem Shekleford will be working hard in training to push for their place in the matchday squad.
Gary Roberts’ thoughts:
“I’ve seen a couple of Oldham’s game and especially against York, I thought they played well. They’ve got some good players and some big threats. Going to Oldham is never easy; John Sheridan will have them right up for it.
“Oldham can hurt you; they score goals. They’ve got players can strike and have started off well. We’ll take our fans in numbers again and it will be a proper game. It will be a good game.
“You look for relationships on the pitch. Jamie and Ty, Ollie and DJ, Branden and Dobs, King and Mandy are all working really well but they are also doing brilliantly as a full group. They are a great bunch of lads.”
