First-team coach Gary Roberts is hoping that patience will reap rewards for the Spireites when they welcome Maidenhead United to the Technique Stadium on Saturday.
Speaking to the media: “Most times at home this season, we’ve had to be patient. We move the ball well enough; we tire teams out and that’s when our fitness will come in.
“Saturday will be no different – we’ll need to be really patient. We need to be really strong defensively.
“They are a threat, but they are at our place. We’ve got to pass the ball better and we’ve got to stay patient.
“It will be a tough game. I don’t think it will be a foregone conclusion. It doesn’t work like that. We’ve got to work really hard for this result.
Darren Oldaker’s last-gasp finish against Maidstone gave Chesterfield their best ever start to a season and broke an 87-year record in the process.
Despite the accolades coming their way, Roberts is happy with how the players are staying grounded, saying: “It’s nice but it’s football – we just go on again. It’s lovely and it’s a great feeling for the lads to break records. Nothing can be taken away from these lads now.
“They are in the record books for the start that they have had, but it’s strictly work again. They are so driven and looking forward to the next game – it’s a really good group.”
Jeff King is suspended for the Saturday’s game after he picked up his fifth yellow card of the season against Maidstone United.
Summer signing Ryheem Sheckleford is in pole position to get his first competitive minutes in a blue shirt and Roberts believes that the right back is ready for it.
He said: “’Shecks’ is waiting, and he is a really good player. His attitude has been tremendous since the day he walked through the door.
“’Kingy’ has done ever so well as well. You never know when you get your chance, you’ve just got to take it.
“We firmly believe is Shecks. He is playing against his old club, and he’ll show you on Saturday that he’s strong in that area.”
