Chief executive John Croot has outlined the thinking behind the introduction of a Covid secure area at the Technique Stadium
The idea is being trialled during the first two home games of the season, with Blocks 1 & 2 in the Karen Child Community (East) Stand set aside as the Covid secure area.
In an exclusive interview with the club’s new online radio station, 1866 Sport, John explained: “It was something that was suggested to us by a supporter. We took the idea away as a management team and slightly adapted it so that we can practically manage it.
“It’s about giving supporters the confidence to return to a stadium where there are no Covid regulations or government guidelines and break gently into it.
“We’ve actually had quite a few people who’ve contacted us who look after someone who is vulnerable and they’re the only carer. They’re worried about taking it (Covid) back to the people they’re looking after.
“It’s a massive issue for some people and we certainly feel that if somebody wants to come and support our football club, we want to do as much as we can to help them do that.”
What special measures will be taken to reduce the risk of contracting Covid-19? “We’ll be respecting two metres social distancing and if there are any queues, there will be distancing there,” said John. “There will also be a very limited, quick-serving offer at the kiosks, again to limit queues.
“Wearing masks will also be mandatory in that area. We’ll see what the feedback is from the people who’ve been part of the process and see whether it should continue.”
