On Solihull Moors

Solihull Moors was founded not so long ago back in 2007 and have risen up the non-league pyramid since their creation. The club have strong ambitions of achieving a Football League status and have had several unsuccessful attempts over recent seasons, something they will be looking to change this campaign.

In one of their first games, Solihull Moors beat Birmingham City reserves. This fixture happened annually as part of an agreement which allowed Birmingham to play their reserve games at Solihull’s ground.

In the 2018/19 National League season Solihull achieved their best ever league finish, coming second with a total of 86 points. Under Tim Flowers, the Moors spent the entire season at or around the top of the league. They ultimately had to settle for second place and a place in the play-offs as they missed out on the title by three points. The Moors were knocked out of the play-offs by AFC Fylde in their semi-final at Damson Park.

The Spireites have plenty of recent history with the Moors, after being defeated at Damson Park last season in the play-off semi-final. This season, Solihull will be looking to finally achieve promotion and gain Football League status. They currently sit in sixth position, seven points behind the Blues.

One to watch

Joseph Sbarra is a 23-year-old midfielder who has an eye for goal. He began his career at Burton Albion but left in 2020 and joined Solihull, where he has since gone on to make nearly 100 appearances, scoring an impressive 28 goals.
