Ahead of the Spireites’ trip to Aldershot Town on Tuesday (7pm), James Rowe gave a tactical view on what he expects his team to do at the EBB Stadium.
He said: “They’re enthusiastic. We have to be careful in the transitions because they pick up false positions.
“So perhaps you would expect certain players to recover in certain positions, that’s not the case. If it turns over, you have to be careful that they don’t catch you.
“We need to manage that. We need to be focused on the turnovers tomorrow. We want to influence the game.
“I think there is space to influence the game how we want to. We’ve got to be good with the ball and brave. I’m sure we will.”
Rowe was pleased with how his side has bounced back from adversity and wants to make sure that the team can continue to show the same qualities as the Barnet game.
“I’m impressed with how quickly this group has come together. The bounce back after Stockport and also the successive defeats which is hard to take.
“To come back and perform like that [the Barnet performance], I think that shows a lot about the group.
“I was really impressed, but it’s quickly forgotten. We learn from that. Can we now go into Tuesday and back that win up?”
After the 2-0 over Barnet, Rowe talked about Laurence Maguire, who took the captain’s armband for the first time.
The manager reiterated his approval of the defender’s performance against Barnet, saying: “He was very good. I think his communication was probably the best it has been.
“He defended really well and used the ball well. An impressive display. I liked his voice in the changing room; that’s what I want to hear more of.
“He conducts himself very well and he is very good in training. He leads by actions. He’s a winner and I want to surround myself with winners.”
Jack Clarke has thoroughly impressed in the last couple of games and Rowe believes that it is just the start for the on-loan Aston Villa midfielder.
“I’m from a development background,” he said. “It’s really a pleasure to work with him. He’s a top talent. He wasn’t ready when he first came in.
“It was important to get his confidence back and he’s full of confidence now. It’s only the start of his career but I’m glad he’s here, building with us at the club.
“The way he ran, tackled, pressed. That was the most impressive thing. That’s what we have been talking about, that’s what he’s been learning.”
