Point secured on the road

The Spireites came away from Meadow Park with a clean sheet and a point as the game against Boreham Wood ended goalless.

James Rowe made one change from the dramatic win at the weekend as Joe Rowley replaced Marcus Dinanga.

The opening exchanges saw both sides struggle to create chances as the windy conditions affected the game.

Rowley manufactured the first opportunity of the game. He managed to make his way through the Boreham Wood defence before being forced out to a tight angle; the midfielder took a shot and his effort went narrowly wide of the goal.

The Chesterfield defence was working well to restrict the home side’s time in the penalty area. However, in the 23rd minute the ball rolled through Adam Przybek’s legs. Luckily the Ipswich Town loanee pounced to retrieve the ball before Kabongo Tshimanga hammered home.

Just before the half-hour-mark, Rowley was forced off after a heavy tackle ended his game. Liam Mandeville came on to replace the 21-year-old.

During the three added minutes at the end of the first half, Junior Morais had Boreham Wood’s best chance of the game. The ball fell to the striker and he fired the ball over the crossbar.

Mandeville had the opening chance of the second half. Haydn Hollis flicked on George Carline’s long-throw to the substitute, but his curling shot flew wide of the goal.

Carline was involved again a few minutes later. He sent in a great cross from the right to Akwasi Asante, but the ball failed to fall to the striker.

Again, opportunities were hard to come by and both sides looked to substitutions to change the game. Gavin Gunning came on for his debut, replacing Tom Whelan with 20 minutes to go.

Soon after, Boreham Wood had the ball in the back of the net. Tom Champion sent through Morais who put the ball into the back of the net, but the flag was up as the forward was offside.

Neither side could carve out any chances and the referee brought a rather uneventful game to an end and the Spireites came away from Meadow Park with a draw.
