Spireites beat Bradford

The Spireites cruised past League Two Bradford City with an impressive 3-0 win at the Technique Stadium. A brace from Joe Quigley and a goal from Liam Mandeville capped off a terrific pre-season outing for the Spireites.

The Spireites started the game brightly in the opening ten minutes, pressing Bradford in their own half and winning the ball back high up the pitch.

Vadaine Oliver had a chance for Bradford when he connected with a cross at the back post, however his header went wide.

The Spireites’ first opportunity came when Darren Oldaker had the ball laid off to him from a corner, but his first-time shot flew over the bar.

Kian Harrat thought he had put Bradford ahead after poking the ball past Colovan, but the goal was ruled out for offside.

Akwasi Asante forced a good save from Harry Lewis with a powerful shot from inside the box.

The Spireites then had a goal of their own ruled-out for offside after Branden Horton found Armando Dobra inside the box who headed the ball into the bottom corner.

The Spireites had a second goal ruled-out for offside after Quigley connected with another Horton cross on the edge of the six-yard box.

The Spireites went into half time with the score 0-0.

Oldaker played the ball to Horton on the left-hand side who crossed the ball into the box. Quigley met the ball at the back post with a great header to give the Spireites the lead in the 49th minute.

Horton came close to doubling the Spireites lead after the ball was threaded though to him on the left-hand side by Dobra. Horton then struck the ball towards goal, hitting a post.

Horton and Quigley linked up again to double the Spireites’ lead in the 57th minute. Horton pulled the ball back to Quigley who glanced the ball into the bottom right corner.

The Spireites made it 3-0 shortly after, in the 58 minute. The ball came to Jeff King who found Mandeville on the edge of the area and he composed himself and struck the ball into the top left corner.

Bradford had a tame attempt saved after Harry Chapman went through on goal.

The Spireites will now look to get another positive result in next Friday’s pre-season friendly, away to Boston United.
