The Spireites missed out on a chance to strengthen their hold on a play-off spot as they drew 0-0 with Wealdstone at the Technique Stadium.
Two changes were made to the side that beat King’s Lynn Town 4-1 in midweek as Will Evans and Liam Mandeville came in for Gavin Gunning and Alex Whittle.
Danny Rowe looked to add to his tally early after opening his account for the club during Tuesday’s win. Adi Yussuf knocked it down to the striker, but his half-volley was deflected wide of the post.
Two minutes later, Yussuf almost popped up with a goal of the season contender. With his back against the goal, the Tanzania international pulled off an overhead kick that beat George Shelvey but struck the woodwork.
The visitors came close to taking the lead against the run of play on the half-hour mark as Dennon Lewis fired a fierce effort just wide.
Chesterfield had the ball in the net in the 38th minute through Josef Yarney. The defender smashed the ball home from close-range, but the linesman’s flag ruled the goal out.
The Spireites ended the half in frustrating manner. Yussuf entered the referee’s book earlier in the half and Oyeleke followed suit just before the break after a scuffle on the halfway line.
A change was made during the interval as Marcus Dinanga came on for Yussuf and the substitute almost made an instant impact but couldn’t get his shot away and the ball was cleared.
George Carline was the next player in blue to come close to opening the scoring. He directed his header on target and his effort went wide, seemingly via a Shelvey save. However, a goal-kick was awarded.
James Montgomery was called upon twice to keep the scores level. One a fantastic save to deny Sonny Lo-Everton on the volley and another to thwart Jacob Mendy.
Chesterfield continued to try and pry open the Wealdstone defence. Dinanga had his shot saved by Shelvey, Kairo Mitchell saw his header loop over the cross bar and Rowe had his free-kick deflected wide.
The away side almost won it with the last chance of the game, but Montgomery was once again on hand to palm away to deny Lewis.
