Spireites hit four in home win

The Spireites left King’s Lynn Town thunder-struck after securing their first home win in five games in a 4-1 victory.

James Rowe made five changes from the win against Woking as Josef Yarney, Alex Whittle, Jak McCourt, Jack Clarke and Adi Yussuf came into the starting XI.

Joe Rowley, Curtis Weston, Tom Whelan, Marcus Dinanga and the injured Fraser Kerr all dropped out.

Chesterfield looked to begin the game in the same manner as the Woking game; McCourt received the ball before curling his effort from the edge of the box onto the post.

Laurence Maguire was allowed space to drive forward in the 23rd minute and hammered a long-range shot just wide of the goal.

Just before the hour-mark, the Blues finally took the lead. A short corner routine saw Clarke and Manny Oyeleke exchange short passes before the latter whipped in a dangerous cross to the back post, which Yussuf swooped in low to head home from a couple of yards out.

Almost immediately, the visitors responded with an equaliser. A mistake from McCourt allowed Sonny Carey to break into the penalty area and slot the ball under James Montgomery.

Within two minutes, the Spireites re-took the lead. A long-throw from George Carline was head back out to the wing-back on the edge of the area. He swung his foot at it and saw his effort deflected, possibly by Yussuf, past Theo Richardson and into the back of the net.

In the last chance of the first half, Carey aimed to grab his brace with a well-struck free-kick that was tipped over by Montgomery.

Chesterfield’s first venture forward in the second half resulted in a third goal. Clarke’s corner was headed back into the danger zone by Gavin Gunning and eventually Yarney was there to prod home from close-range to grab his first goal of the season.

In the 54th minute, it was four. Danny Rowe lined up a shot from his 30-yard free-kick and sent a low piledriver beyond Richardson for his first goal for the club.

Yussuf hunted down another goal for the Chesterfield tally just after the hour mark. He played an excellent one-two with Clarke before firing an effort towards goal, but it was blocked.

The game calmed down after that effort with chances becoming a premium. Dinanga, Whelan and Will Evans replaced Yussuf, McCourt and Whittle in the Spireites three changes.

The rain continued to pour down at the Technique Stadium and the referee brought the game to an end right on the 90th minute.
