Spireites win at Bromley

Jack Clarke and George Carline scored their first goals for the club as the Spireites came away from Hayes Lane with a vital 2-1 victory against Bromley.

Manager James Rowe made one change to the side that drew at Wrexham with Martin Smith coming in for Curtis Weston.

Chesterfield started brightly and came close to opening the scoring after just four minutes. Danny Rowe picked the ball on the edge of the box and he curled his effort over the crossbar.

Chances kept coming the way of the Blues; Carline sent a brilliant cross to the back post where Joel Taylor crashed his volley off the crossbar.

Taylor and Carline continued to get the better of the Bromley full-back. The former sent a driven shot towards goal but his effort drifted wide of the goal.

The hosts best chance of the half saw Jack Bridge make his way past Manny Oyeleke before launching an effort past Grant Smith but over the bar.

Just before the break, Martin Smith took the ball down on the edge of the box and tried his luck. The shot rolled wide of the goal and the score stayed goalless going into the break.

The combination of Taylor and Carline continued to cause havoc in the second half. The latter latched onto a cross from the left wing-back and hammered an effort towards goal, but the attempt was cleared off the line.

Just five minutes into the second half, the Spireites took the lead. Clarke benefited from a defensive error and lifted the ball over Mark Cousins and into the back of the net.

Nathan Tyson replaced Kairo Mitchell just before the hour-mark. The striker made an impact almost immediately as his shot deflected off a Bromley defender and went inches wide of the post.

The home side found an unlikely equaliser on the 68th minute. A mistake from Grant Smith allowed Jude Arthurs to chip the goalkeeper and find the goal.

However, Chesterfield were back ahead with just under 15 minutes to go. Once again, Taylor whipped a cross into the back post and Carline was there to guide the ball past Cousins.

Frankie Raymond had two chances to grab a late equaliser; one thunderbolt went just over and the other long-range effort was stopped by the outstretched arm of Smith. The final whistle sounded moments later to give the Spireites a much-needed three points.
