Spireites win at Yeovil

The Spireites recorded their fifth victory of the season, winning 2-0 away at Yeovil Town, after an own goal from former Spireite Grant Smith and a wonder strike from Kabongo Tshimanga sent the Blues home with all three points.

The first chance of the game fell to the Spireites, when Stefan Payne gambled on a long ball over the top and it paid off as he went through on goal with only the keeper to beat, but Max Hunt got back just in time to clear the danger.

Yeovil went close soon after as Joe Quigley played a dangerous ball into the area which nearly found the feet of Charlie Wakefield on the penalty spot, but Curtis Weston made a vital interception to keep the game level.

The Glovers thought they had taken the lead in the 18th minute after Quigley’s header found the bottom corner, but the referee ruled it out for a foul on Scott Loach.

Seconds later the Spireites found themselves ahead, after Manny Oyeleke fired an effort towards goal from the edge of the area which smashed off a post and deflected back off Smith into the back of the net.

Yeovil once again had the ball in the back of the net, after Quigley slotted home on the edge of the six-yard box, but the referee ruled the goal out for offside.

The Blues then fired themselves into a two-goal lead. After Loach spotted Tshimanga making a run in behind the defence, he fired the ball up field and sent the striker through on goal and he made no mistake, firing his effort into the bottom corner, just before half time.

The second half started slowly, but the Spireites created the first real chance, as Payne’s shot from the edge of the area was well saved by Smith.

Yeovil went close in the 60th minute when Quigley fired an effort towards goal from the edge of the area, but Loach did well to leap across his goal-line and make the save.

Liam Mandeville then went close with an effort from the edge of the area, which flashed just past the post.

Tom Knowles went close for Yeovil in the 76th minute, but his effort from the edge of the area flew just past the post.

The home side continued to pile on the pressure but couldn’t find a way through the men in Blue as the Spireites recorded their fifth victory of the season.
